IT Support Officer
IT support officers monitor and maintain the computer systems and networks of an organisation. They install and configure computer systems, diagnose hardware/software faults and solve technical problems, either over the phone or face-to-face.
What you would do:
- install and configure computer systems
- monitor and maintain computer systems and networks
- talk staff/clients through a series of actions - either face-to-face or over the telephone
- troubleshoot system and network problems and diagnose and solve hardware/software faults
- find solutions to problems, be it through creating a desktop short cut or fixing a major fault on the operating system
- replace parts
- provide support documentation, including procedural documentation
- follow diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a system
- run network applications to support system and users
- support new applications
- set up new users
- respond within agreed time limits to call-outs
- work continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate)
- prioritise and manage several open cases at one time
- rapidly establish a good working relationship with strangers in their premises to make necessary repairs (contract businesses)
- test/evaluate new technology
- conduct electrical safety checks on computer equipment
You need to be:
- able to think logically
- knowledgeable of how software and operating systems work
- an excellent listener with questioning skills to interact confidently with clients to establish what the problem is and explain the solution
- focused on customer needs
- patient
- of technical orientation and interest
- attentive to detail
You will require:
- Certificate IV in Information Technology
- Drivers Licence
