Refuse Collection Driver

Refuse Collection Drivers collect household, industrial or commercial rubbish for disposal or recycling

  

What you would do:

  • operate side or rear loading refuse collection trucks and related equipment
  • assist mechanics in repairing and dismantling and servicing equipment
  • perform regular truck maintenance
  • inspect, report and attend to unsafe or abnormal occurrences to the waste collection truck
  • carry out allocated tasks in all weather conditions
  • empty mobile waste bins on a day-to-day basis by either manually attaching the mobile waste bin to the lifting mechanism on the vehicle or by solo operation of a waste collection vehicle
  • complete the servicing, greasing and safety check of vehicles every day
  • ensure that any waste that spills during collection is picked up
  • promote and maintain a positive organisational image and good community relations
  • participate in team meetings
  • use a two way radio

You need to be:

  • able to work efficiently and effectively as part of a team
  • an excellent verbal communicator
  • able to complete daily task record sheets
  • able to discuss and resolve issues
  • able to undertake daily duties with limited supervision
  • able to plan daily work in accordance with the collection program

You will require:

  • a current driver's license with heavy rigid (HR) endorsement

Improve you chances by:

  • gaining experience in municipal waste and recycling activities
  • gaining experience in operating side and rear loading collection vehicles 
  • obtaining a First Aid Certificate

What you will earn:

Salaries generally range from $33,000 to $38,000.
